Since I came to Australia I haven’t listened to radio and watched television too much. There are one hundred excuses why. But this time one of my goals is getting involved in Australian’s culture and listening to the radio has been one of the best ways. One of the tasks for this week was to review two breakfast radio programs, and I picked up Nova and Mix stations. Both Nova and Mix have a funny program, but I could catch some differences between them.
I listened two days in a row to Mix, meanwhile I traveled one hour and a half from my house to Holmesglen Institute. The first thing I didn’t like about the program is it had too many ads. I know, this is a commercial radio station, but even the presenters made ads in the program. I was expecting more comments, reports and more features, but that one and a half hours became very few real minutes in the time of the show. However their knowledge of presenters about entertainment information, made the program easy flowing. On the other hand, it’s evident that this program targets mature audiences, especially females. I noticed that Mix Mornings program with Brig, George & Tom have chemistry and the show flows very well. I especially liked all of the presenters that were not afraid to share their points of view even if they didn’t agree.
The next two days I tuned in to Nova station and I found a funny program to expend my mornings on the train. The first program that caught my attention was Hughesy and Kate, the breakfast show on Nova. Their English is much clearer than the other presenters on other stations, although they use slang as well. The topics in the program are light and they have good sense of humour. However, I didn’t like their tendency to interrupt the caller constantly and sometimes they spend too much time talking about themselves instead of allowing the guests to talk. In spite of all this, I chose Nova’s breakfast program as my morning radio station.
